The first such facility at any UK university, the Durham Collections Fellowships represent a unique opportunity for Durham University and our partners.

We now have the chance to create an entirely new dimension for the intellectual use and global awareness of the Durham Collections and the international standing of arts and humanities research at the University.

Outstanding visiting researchers – both early career and senior scholars – from around the world will be attracted to spend time studying our exceptional shared collections and enrich the region‘s cultural life during their stay. These Fellows will build a vibrant and high-profile research community from their inspirational hub at Ushaw College, and will be expected to collectively publish a range of original research insights based on their work here.

The quick turn-over of visiting scholars means the number of new ambassadors for the Durham Collections will quickly grow. In this way, the Durham Collections Fellowships will greatly enhance the profile of the outstanding cultural and bibliographical heritage of our region among broader academic and public audiences alike, and will ensure the increased global attention that such heritage deserves.

If you would like to help us make the very best of this exciting opportunity by supporting our Visiting Fellowships programme, then we would be very pleased to hear from you!

Durham University would like to express our sincere thanks to Graham and Joanna Barker, Chris and Margaret Lendrum, and Peter and Tina Holland, for their generous support of fellowship schemes at the Durham Collections Fellowships.
